Reading books I’d rather not…

Gossip: It just keeps going, and going, and going, and...

…because it’s not wise to simply pass along what everyone else is saying, right?

Nicole and I went to the library last night, and I found two “Christian living” books I’ll be reading specifically because of the negative reviews they’ve received on a number of Christian web sites I frequent. Hopefully there’s some good that can be taken from these books, as they’ve both been extremely popular titles. (I know Christians can be as dumb as sheep, but I’d like to think American believers aren’t totally ignorant.)

Once they’re read I’ll post my reviews. Until then, feel free to guess what they might be. Who knows; you might add to my list of “must-reviews”! ;)

  1. I was thinking of reviewing some of these books, too…but I’m not sure I really do have the time to really read (and not just skim and assess) all the 60 books we’ve recently checked out. LOL!

  2. I’m planning on buying two books myself. They are:

“The King James Only Controversy” by James White

“Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper

I think I may know what one of the books you got is…”The Purpose-Driven Life”. Am I right? Do I win a new car? Is the other book (or one of them, if my guess is wrong) by Joel Osteen?

  3. “Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper

If it wouldn’t cost about the same for me to lend it to you through the mail, I’d offer you my copy. Excellent book!

“Am I right? Do I win a new car?”

    (a) Yes, and (b) according to Osteen, you simply need to claim God’s favor and you’ll get whatever you want [most of the time]! ;)

  4. So are the two books by Warren and Osteen, or was my only right guess the Osteen one.

Osteen’s claim sounds like the Word-Life, “name it and claim it” bunch. They are dangerous.

  5. Hmm… one of those was right. I just now realized you mentioned two of ‘em; you’ll find out soon which one of those I’m reading! (The other, sadly, you didn’t guess. Poor you. :( )
